neither. I'm a contextualist. the meaning of language is a function of its context, which includes the speaker's intent, the audience's interpretation, and all sorts of contextual inference clues that can mutate the expected intention and interpretation on the spot.

this doesn't just reduce to descriptivism because there are contexts where prescriptive use of language is expected. technical writing is a good example of that.
