She was missing of course completely the point that in Tibetan Buddhism people can have very different types of practice commitments depending on their lineage and style of practice with both monastic or non-monastic formal ordinations.

Not so much an example of perennialism, but of assuming that all of the Buddhim should be the same.

Good distinction here Joogipupu. I should have been clearer so as to not get perennialism mixed up with the sort of thing you're talking about here; assuming all of Buddhism - or any particular type of 'ism' - should be the same, which is a different move, you're right.

Not to sound too deep thought. I was just looking for an opportunity to rant a bit.

Guys, you have to define whatever the FUCK you're talking about! I have only studied Church History, Western History/Philosophy, Western Theology (incl. Old/neo Calvinist branches) and Eastern Orthodoxy . I happen to only know African traditionalism; but that wasn't by choice...

I happen *to ALSO know African traditionalism.... What CANNOT study every religion, philosophy or philosopher under the sun! You have to be a PRODUCTIVE human for goodness sake. The point is: I only see/define "BUDDHISM" from an African-Western perspective (mainly Western).

Everything else might as well go fuck itself! Failing which, GIVE it some definitions please... Presently, I see Buddhism as "friends" to Stoicism and versions of Aristotelianism. If that's not OK or accurate...provide something better!

All Buddhisms are going to be non-dualistic which makes them at odds with Aristotelianism/Platonism which is explicitly dualistic. All Buddhisms are going to reference the 4 Noble Truths + Eightfold Path as important foundational teaching tools. Beyond that not much agreement

to give you an idea about how much Buddhisms differ from one another, compare Western Soto Zen Buddhism with its extremely heavy emphasis on seated meditation for everyone with Chinese Mahayana Buddhism, which has no meditation practice at all for the laity (only for monks).

or compare the Secular Dharma Buddhism of Stephen Batchelor with it's strongly atheistic stance and rejection of reincarnation metaphysics with Tibetan Nyingma Buddhism with it's emphasis on interacting with deities and spirits and it's highly baroque maps of reincarnations.
