Cold take: Mayonnaise is almost entirely eggs and oil with some acids and emulsifiers in there. These are all respectable ingredients and it is okay to eat mayonnaise and making fun of it is honestly kind of strange. You shouldn't have to call it "aioli" to accept it.
store brand uses Calcium Disodium EDTA as a preservative. prevents rancidification, which has always been a huge problem for my homemade batches. they don't hold up for more than about 2 weeks before they start to smell funky/rancid.
