I have some incredibly strong opinions about what Ayahuasca tourism is and means w.r.t Norteamericanos and why I wish things hadn't turned out this way.

the highly compressed version, though, is that Ayahuasca tourism is legitimately a form of cultural appropriation (as opposed to the numerous bullshit examples that get media heat) and also that Norteamericanos who go do it are doing at as a form of self-flagellation.

and it's a counter-factual so almost impossible to meaningfully investigate, but I think probably the same people who find Ayahuasca retreats effective would find Western culture native forms of psychedelic therapy to be even better, except it's fucking illegal here.

I've done psychedelic therapy anyway (can't say much more cuz, ya know, illegal) so I have some foundation for this belief.
