That is a ridiculous definition and you should question the entity from which you obtained it. It could apply to mere wars.

Consider the origin of the term "terrorism".

Wow the leftist pile-on to this tweet has been unreal. >Consider this morally-significant thing and be ashamed of your heresy No.

he's not a leftist and hikiko is not a communist. techocaine is not a lefitst either and while I'm left(ish) in some respects I am very very far from what is usually called "the left" in America.

afaik the origin of the term refers to the Jacobin faction of the French revolution and their "reign of terror". it is, historically speaking, used as an indictment against left wing violent extremism.

Yes this. I think that while there are useful distinctions to draw between typical state terrorism and counter-state terrorism, the line blurs (e.g. the KKK was both) and they deserve a common category.

this is why I'm saying semantic arguments are boring. there's a larger category that describes the full spectrum of politically motivated violence against non-combatants. I don't especially care about the word "terrorism" itself. there's a whole phenomenon here to dig into.

Perhaps, but that would be a different discussion entirely. The fact that someone of a given race can't even safely survive certain neighborhoods in this country is a form of political violence as well, and that too is a different discussion.

Should I call that terrorism too? Should I call asymmetric crime rates with political significance terrorism too? Where do you draw the line? I doubt you would like the results.

If you're confusing me for a doctrinaire leftist you are mistaken. I'm indifferent to the results. Statistics require interpretation and I am interested in seeing multiple interpretations of the data to attempt to learn what might be true. I try to take nothing for granted.

I find it plausible that certain types of crime are in the same category as terrorism. Drug cartel actions pattern match this fairly well in a lot of cases. I would hesitate to make overly general claims though and I'm not an expert on this topic.

I have made it clear enough that I feel as though I am being harangued. I'm sorry it took such blunt tools to convey that, but please have some sense of understanding about how these things come across.
