left: people are not capable of making good decisions as individuals right: people are not capable of making good decisions as collectives authoritarian: and yet some people do make better decisions than others libertarian: and yet I still insist on making my own decisions https://twitter.com/EmmaGorowski/status/1021541247389814784 …
can you unpack that quote? I'm not familiar with this author or his ideas and it does not seem self-evident.

Since this has died off w/o reply, thought I'd chime in with ruminations on trying to unpack these quotes myself. 1st seems to be left is worried about ends, right worried about means. 2nd is politics is more generally the mechanism by which individuals interact in a community.

The conversation actually continued a bit beyond this, but twitter's threading is confusing: https://twitter.com/ShonFeder/status/1023561834232725506 … I think your glosses are helpful, tho for (1) I think both pursue different ends: left seeks the well being of community, right the preservation/advance of order.

Thank you for replying and pointing me in the right direction of the continuation of the thread. I also agree with your point about 1. It's the direction I was heading towards, I'm just not good at articulating these kinds of things. Trying to get better.
