i dont think this is unique to server stuff. literally every software thing feels like this. if you aren't doing it regularly and aren't trying to learn how to do it, well, then it feels foreign and confusing and full of little gotchas and blind alleys.
functional programming has an entirely different type of learning curve but that's not particularly what i was thinking of. talking about, broadly, different domains of knowledge rather than different styles of writing code.

lmao ok i'm not going to attempt to keep this going after that one. frontend webshit is currently experiencing metastatic cancer in terms of complexity creep. documentation is like putting a bandaid on a severed limb.
