I've had problems with the superstitious elements of Vaj from the start. Then came the sex scandals. And the responses to them. In addition, I have seen little change in long-term practitioners.

introducing "magical"/mythicist elements into any practice has an enormous implicit hazard and I've seen these problems turn up in many communities. in short, there seems to be a subset of people who are more-or-less incapable of anything besides literalism.

from observation: common in many Catholic congregations (Saint worship, etc.), as well as certain styles of protestantism ("prayer" magic, faith healing, etc.), and of course certain Buddhist sects from experience: quite a lot of Western esoteric practicioners are stuck there
