My issue with "mansplaining" (the concept) is that a lot of guys try to explain stuff just as their go to form of communication. Because, like most everyone, they are lonely. So it's not so much that they think they're superior or putting women down, as just trying to connect.

1/2 Good points Derek (and thanks for the hat-tip Dan). I recently came across a decent explanation of my ‘routinely condescend’ and Derek’s annoying (and sad) presumption here. https://twitter.com/kimgoodwin/status/1020029572266438657 … — it misses the loaded dice of ‘mansplain’ though...

2/2 She says (in the equally decent discussion which follows) that ‘it’s gendered because the *negative* behaviour is predominently gendered’ which is definitely true, but she misses the *positive* behaviour (male styles of thought) and therefore the problem with the term.

That makes sense. I guess I'd prefer people just hear one another out a bit more, before jumping to feeling socially slighted or getting upset. But by the same token, I can certainly sympathize with being annoyed at being lectured.
