this gets said a lot and is maybe relevant for like, the wordpress blog maintained by an amateur, but do you really think this is even remotely a thing for a technology organization hiring a team of professionals?

You can build very complex systems in php, newer versions aren't that terrible.

Magento is a huge market for coders to work in, a pain I'm sure (if you're forced to use an older version) but there's money in it.
