If you moderate the Matthew Effect, you will moderate Social Justice Activism.

"Matthew effect" is a natural threshold effect that essentially discriminates leaf nodes & branch nodes on an economic network (or org chart, officer vs enlisted class, etc). This, like the related power law (how central the node), is a natural consequence of networked economies.

It's difficult to "moderate" the Matthew effect because the more resources you pour into the leaf nodes of an economic network the more the branch nodes (especially trunk nodes) will process too. This isn't necessarily bad for the leaf nodes but it may be bad for their pride.

less literal reading: "moderating" the Mathew effect means moderating the consequences (inequality) not the causes (structural effects of market economies). i.e. this is just for redistribution policies

My thesis: social justice activism is no longer about redistributing wealth; it's about redistributing pride. This is because everyone's needs are met in practice, and pride is essentially the only benefit to getting more than one's needs. At least in the WEIRD regions of SJWs.

Note how this is consistent with the verbal justice gerbils focusing so intently on language, as if referring to someone using the "wrong" pronoun was tantamount to clubbing them with a crowbar. They don't scream about how the person's smartphone is two years old.

I mostly agree with you. I don't think economic redistribution will actually satisfy the demands of the loudest and most vehement factions of social justice activists. Some of them seem absolutely revanchist, which terrifies me at times.

FWIW, I did say "moderate" and not "eliminate".

my hope is that the economically dispossessed are feeding extra oxygen to the fire and without that source the really extreme revenge-fantasists will wither away as they no longer find a base of disaffected people to prop them up.
