I'd sooner rewrite a slow system that people are contemplating turning into a cluster than start mapping out a dist-sys. I've been a cluster jockey for almost every kind of commonly used dist-sys. Do-not-want. Master and a hot failover for database. Everything else stateless.

It might not be clear to newer programmers that we mean coordinating and/or stateful distributed systems. Stuff like a load balancer fronting for a bunch of stateless web servers is fine.

very important clarification. massively parallel STATELESS systems are great actually. state is the devil every damn time.
