it's not just me, right? this is a non-sensical reading of myth and scripture. Moses is not a figure associated with humility, forgiveness, or mercy. Rather the opposite. Achilles was not Athenian and the Greek side in the Illiad was a coalition of Greek states, not just Athenspic.twitter.com/IaSEHmz31P

Jerusalem was founded (or reconquered, whatever) AFTER the Exodus. Moses was never even allowed to step foot into the promised land.

I understand that author's intent (if you really want to know who wrote it, ask, I'd rather not name or link here) in that he wants to set up Western civilization as having roots in the culture of the ancient Eastern Mediterranean. This is a stupid way to do it.

it's funny because the literary framing of Old vs. New Testament usually sets Moses and Jesus forth as contrasting examples.

explicitly so. the authors of the new testament, who created the Jesus myth (whether or not he had a mortal life is irrevelant, his immortal life is what happened after the story was written down) made a deliberate break with the vengeance driven mythos of the old testament

also Athens wasn't really the martial paragon they set them out to be. They operated a coercive trade empire but that was better than being a Peloponnesian Helot

I don't even have college credits. I read Thucydides in pubs when I was homeless.
