this was the original constitutional intent, as far as I can tell, but it doesn't appear to be working very well

idk it just feels like an all-powerful federal govt of so much land is such a bad idea, also open to far-reaching corruption (or legal corruption: lobbying)

How is it any worse than a state government, though?

State governments are like federal but cheaper.

smaller governed body = fewer people feel "left out", faster feedback loops, greater participation per person, also you can move states if you don't like it

there's a problem of local powergrabbers in councils here i wish that could be solved easily but wasting time changing 'chairman' to 'chairperson' in our town whilst there are around 70% of the population on welfare and people living in emergency accomdation is shit

that sucks but is a separate problem from legitimacy of democracy and integrity of the ballot.

of course, it's a limitation to devolving govt to the local level though

it's still a good idea. if a locality elects a shitty local gov then at least the damage is contained.

true true, i did write a shitty not-very-well-thought-out article about it before https://unclelee.ch/blog/better-govt.html … if you want to rip my arse open about how bad it is feel free

I'm content to leave your arse intact but thanks for the link
