galaxy brain take on US govt structure: devolve more power to states and have a 'minarhist style' federal govt

this was the original constitutional intent, as far as I can tell, but it doesn't appear to be working very well

idk it just feels like an all-powerful federal govt of so much land is such a bad idea, also open to far-reaching corruption (or legal corruption: lobbying)

How is it any worse than a state government, though?

State governments are like federal but cheaper.

smaller governed body = fewer people feel "left out", faster feedback loops, greater participation per person, also you can move states if you don't like it

imo its 100% necessary for functioning democracy. the legitimacy of a democratic government comes from consent of the governed which requires strong consensus. you can't expect strong consensus from such large and disparate groups of people as we currently have in the U.S.

thus we have an illegitimate fedgov and everyone knows it and hates it and fears it. it's the major source of the heat of the culture war. the fear of "the others" having power over you at the next election. we have to stop this.
