OPINION: America would be in a significantly less fucked up place if California and Washington had a proportional amount of power in government compared to their population.

Why not ballot-by-email, instead? Seems safer.
-
whatever. why not both? as long as it can be secured and verified.
-
Mail isn't really easy to secure or verify.
-
tamper-evident seals on envelopes and forgery-evident elements in ballot slips (similar to what's used in paper currency) should do it.
-
You can always take them out of a person's mailbox, fill them out, wait until after they check their mail, put the letter back, flip the mail flag up and wait, though.
-
tamper evident seals! that's why you need them. the ballot is distributed in a sealed envelope that contains a return envelope with a new seal.
-
So couldn't you just take that out of their mailbox, too?
-
the worst you could do is just destroy the ballot before it's returned. this is relatively easily solved with a secured ballot drop site instead of regular mail carrier.

put an age ceiling on public office. lets start at 70 and see how that works out. implement term limits for Supreme Court justices. no justice shall serve for more than 1 term and a term shall be limited to 10 years.

galaxy brain take on US govt structure: devolve more power to states and have a 'minarhist style' federal govt
-
who are you Thomas Jefferson or something?
-
Jefferson wanted (almost-)anarchism, didn't he?
-
yes exactly that's why I mentioned him. his vision of democracy was minarchist at the federal level and libertarian at the state level.
-
i really know nothing about US history other than 'people came over, people weren't happy with tax, people made big cuppa in boston harbour, ... bad country exists'
-
it's not a bad country it's a complicated country that is currently paralyzed from solving the problems of its bad people in positions of power. bad things were done in the past. its a tragic history but we're moving forward.
-
i mean i've had a bit to drink now so maybe this isn't perfectly coherent but oh well, I just really have always thought the way the US operates is a terrible affront to the way i think things should work
