YESSSSSS eat livestock at a pace that matches what the the pasture can grow. cows are fruit, ok? they're the fruit of pasture grass.https://twitter.com/SarahTaber_bww/status/1007273886906572800 …

I think there's a sect of the anti-livestock crowd that would argue against 'everything is due to overconsumption' but it certainly is the focus in arguments about welfare
-
the animal welfare argument is compelling when you're talking about factory farms. free range grass-fed cattle have much more humane lives. arguably better than wild animals.
-
the point is that killing them is not-humane not their conditions (for some)
-
everything dies. killed humanely in a properly equipped slaughterhouse is a much less painful death than being torn apart by wolves.
-
Oh I agree I'm just making the point that people dont like it for their own reasons. I still continue to eat meat when I can afford it and try to get the best quality when I can.
-
I spend way too much time thinking about this topic and often don't live up to my own standards.. Compared to how I was raised I eat much less meat. Compared to how I think I ought to eat, I should still eat less meat. I don't think full veg is actually good though.
-
I have meat at most once a week because of the price of it more than anything else, if I do get meat I try to get to the market for beef / lamb but if I'm having chicken I usually get it at the supermarket (less good but eh)

this is objectively not true, what many people hate about meat-eating is that it involves the gratuitous killing of mortally terrified creatures who have the emotional and intellectual development of 2-year-old humans
-
you sure it's not subjectively not true? like, its ok if you disagree with me on this
-
self-reported reasons of people who feel strongly enough about meat-eating to go vegetarian or vegan seem like a pretty good proxy.. although admittedly this does exclude those who "hate" some aspect of meat-eating but still do it https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0195666307003686 … https://vomadlife.com/blogs/news/why-most-people-go-vegan-2016-survey-results-reveal-all …pic.twitter.com/3w9ASaP47C
