Follow-up question: how can you tell if a "hi resolution" idea will degrade gracefully? My take: intentional degradation seems solvable thru explicit layers of increasing detail. This is how Alexander laid out A Timeless Way, and also religious patterns (see 10 cmdts vs Talmud).

the canonical text idea is to perform informational hygiene on reproductions (compare to known good copies, destroy faulty transcriptions). this really only works in a low bandwidth environment. too high replication rate in modern internet culture. wild mutations abound.
