the whole "fuck the fans" thing I see in various media contexts would be clarified by calling fans what they really are: customers. Translate to "fuck the customers" and the woes of several media product-lines begin to make sense.
The disconnect is that the media outlets that write "fuck the fans" don't have fans as their customers. Their customers are brand advertisers that buy impressions shown to specific demographics.
