I like old timey mechanical video explanations. I feel like we've actually taken a few steps backwards in terms of learning/teaching how things work, even with all this technology we have today.https://interestingengineering.com/video/restored-1936-footage-of-chevy-truck-explains-the-importance-of-the-floating-axle …

AR/VR should top this by allowing you to play around with the system. 3D printing is already being used by doctors currently to study and prepare for surgery, but their introduction into schools for learning has faltered after all the initial hype.

Where are our similar learning tools/materials for making s/w that explain the problems they were trying to solve, the design thinking, what they tried, and how things work? Most s/w projects today only document how to use them, not why/how they were designed the way they are.

It feels like we document today mostly for adoption rather than for understanding the inner workings. Incidental complexity rather than essential complexity. This makes the s/w perhaps easier to use, but not easier to understand and build upon.
