After that day, Lonnie and Sandy jumped into action. They fought for gun legislation reform. They fought for background checks. They fought to change they way we deal with firearms in our country.
All the work they did was hands on. Unable to afford a house or apartment, Lonnie and Sandy bought a trailer and travelled around the country to connect gun violence prevention coalitions to one another.
They started Survivors Empowered. This organization connects survivors of gun violence with other survivors, providing them with support and training to tell their stories in a compelling way.pic.twitter.com/HaxmlHwR7W
Lonnie and Sandy have dedicated their lives to stopping these tragedies that plague our nation. They do it so no one else loses their loved ones like they did.pic.twitter.com/4VNz2u4ygA
I am so moved by their story and so angered by why they are doing it. The 2nd Amendment protects the right to have a militia, read army, not for citizens to own guns. That it gives anyone the right to own a gun is the big lie.
Deepest condolences to Sandy and Lonnie. They honor their daughter every single day with their determination to help others dealing with the aftermath of gun violence. Their strength is awe-inspiring.
I’ve met Sandy and Lonnie. They have given so unselfishly to the gun violence prevention movement and are two of the most genuine, wonderful humans you’ll ever meet. Support @survivorsemp if you care abt gun violence survivors. #enough
