As a person who follows sports on Twitter, Gametime allows me connect with other fans and have a conversation with them while following the game live! Let’s see how it works…pic.twitter.com/0A1pJyX8J4

The Lakers are playing the Warriors tonight, so an ephemeral chat room gets spun up that only exists for the duration of the game. Except it’s not just one chat room…it’s many chat rooms! Whaaa
how does that work?pic.twitter.com/oXIgrrth1AShow this thread -
Twitter automatically matches you with 8-12 people, much like a dinner party. Not too many people where things can spiral out of control to toxicity, and not too little where it seems dead. It’s a group chat!pic.twitter.com/3gZ6BZervt

Don’t like the room you were placed in? No problem, just switch out to a different room until you find the one that matches you. As you do this Twitter *should* get smarter on matching you in the future.pic.twitter.com/rBY6FMMAYW

The next thing is
Live Commentary
As you’re chatting with this group of people every room will receive live highlights directly injected into the chat stream as they happen from Twitter, or even eventually a notable personality "hosting" the game that night!pic.twitter.com/CARiEHOPPcShow this thread -
When the game is over the room is spun down. In the future it might be cool to create a mechanism to “follow” certain people you found in these rooms and join them when the next game starts. Or to have your own private room where you can invite the people you want!pic.twitter.com/m8WlEHAmSd

The next thing is Highlights
& Stats
To see a better aggregate of what has happened so far in the game...this is like the existing moments timeline but more rich with stats modules and in-game info.pic.twitter.com/Kx6JMECct6Show this thread -
So why should this exist?
Currently there are tons of people on here following their favorite game simultaneously, tweeting about it, but not really interacting with each other.
So why should they keep tweeting?Show this thread -
Back in 2015, I proposed a concept called “Twitter Rooms”: https://medium.com/swlh/twitter-rooms-e6f34e843e9a … where Twitter can create these permanent spaces around interests that people can congregate around and chat with each other + meet new people. It’s still a good idea. But there were problems…pic.twitter.com/5aFv9OW8tT

Permanent spaces are hard to maintain.

Who’s responsible to keep a conversation going? From spiraling out? What happens when there are a 100 people in a chat room? Toxicity and spam? The conversations also quickly die because they lack a solid context.
How do we fix this?Show this thread -
1) Algorithms
Twitter would act as a match maker that brings people together based on their favorite teams, degrees of separation, if they became Gametime buddies, and have a history conversation...etcShow this thread -
2) Constraints
The room would be limited to 8-12 people — a dinner party. Is that the best number? Maybe.
It’s enough people to keep a conversation going but not too many where it feels like you can spew toxicity & get away with it. It still feels intimate.Show this thread -
3) Self agency

If you don’t like the room you’re placed in you can quickly switch out to a different one!
There’s always an escape hatch to leave. This option is crucial in giving ppl the agency to change their environment until they find the right one. You're in control.Show this thread -
Will this concept work? I'm not sure. There are still a lot of holes in it. Is putting random people together going to work? Is a game enough to keep a conversation going? How does the experience look like when you leave the chat screen? Leave your comments below! [/THREAD]
