    This is playing trucks with my son. As his time in office winds down, I keep remembering what a kind, funny, empathetic, yet brilliant and exacting leader he was for . His combination of street and data smarts will be hard to emulate.

    Confession: I have used the US News rankings in an analysis I did for work. If I had bothered to learn more about how subjective, biased, and utterly facile the rankings are, I would have used literally any other data. Best episode yet

    Oh my. hacked the secret US News college rankings algorithm. Hijinks ensue. :-)

    Mandatory rt for leading in share of commuters and to show it.

    Been learning tidycensus package, and made this figure of transit commute mode-share for largest communities in MA. ~1/3 in Somerville & Boston, ~20-30% in 8 other cities, and falls of pretty quick after that. For context, commutes are only ~20% of all trips...

    I was fortunate to work with Jorrit and on an early iteration of this with other Massachusetts mayors. I only wish this center existed when I was a grad student. Congrats!

    Q: how would you encourage an 8 yo hacker who loves coding his own video games? He's moving past Scratch already, and I've taught him basics, like variables and if-then. He hates classwork. A private tutor? A self-directed project?? A certain MOOC?

    Just got out of P/T conferences for Lars (8). Apparently, last week he was taking a math test on a computer at school. There was a problem he didn't like so he went in and deleted the code for that problem so it would disappear from the test. I'm horrified and proud? Horriproud?
