Would love to hear some thoughts on this thread from @VincentHorn & @Meaningness...

Uh… it would take a very long blog post that would mostly be “yes, and on the other hand…” Several cephalopods worth of other hands. Maybe biggest squid is that conceptions of “enlightenment” vary. So do people and paths. Uh, that’s just saying the same thing again!

I guess if the question is “is it dangerous,” the answer is “it can be, but not everyone has a bad time.” There’s no way to sure you won’t, but there are reasonable steps you can take to mitigate the risks. IMO. I’m not officially qualified to have an opinion. Vinay is.

OTOH, Vinay is generalizing from his knowledge of one system, in which he is fully accredited, to all Buddhist and Hindu systems, which seems a bit dubious. I’ve got lots more hands… On twitter, no one knows you are a tentacled alien from planet Zog
-
Re danger again, he’s talking about the consequences of full-time advanced practice for 5-10 years. The likelihood of a major freakout during that time is quite high. The likelihood of a breakdown if you do an hour a day plus occasional retreats is much less (but not zero).

I'm glad that worked for you, but it's not a panacea. Different people need very different means.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Seems like dharma bum is viable option in australia, with mix of economy, natural spaces and many institutions to volunteer at. I like how you did it through medical school ... you had right livelyhood down, many people have to struggle to get that part of the path right...
-
... i dunno, just some random thoughts that go around my head right now as I figure out my next move...

Also... Goenka org / U Ba Khin seems pretty resistant to market forces :)

BTW... I often re-read "A clear goal" and "What went wrong" Many thanks.

The "content vs insight" distinction is very relevant to me and has been incredibly helpful I have the unfortunate background of having studied philosophy looking for answers about origins of consciousness :)
