Maybe this will happen as a result of WifiCoin. An incentive to distribute many small digital assets in the real world.

Why would it affect Bitcoin power consumption? Because you could enforce some distribution?
-
You could make a truly decentralized LocationCoin.
-
Isn't protecting uniqueness a problem? I can break into your house and sit at the chair you normally buy LocationCoins at.
-
Yes! We’ve had that bug for thousands of years and developed societal solutions to it (locks, police, etc).
-
Most people don't keep a ton of untraceable cash at their house, though. I think another application would be to use this unspoofable location to enforce a geo distribution in PoW systems. Can't build up big warehouses of miners.

Just moves the centralization to the point of GPS verification... what you’re really asking for is a location specific hash function in nature.
-
I wonder what it would take to build an open, decentralized GPS system? Perhaps with some ground-based elements?

Check out this paper: http://phys.lsu.edu/~fmoxley/gyro.pdf …. Or, easier, this summary: https://contest.techbriefs.com/2014/entries/aerospace-and-defense/5020 …. I know the inventor if you want to meet him.
