This was a good article that provides an answer to Dawkins's question: http://bostonreview.net/race-philosophy-religion-gender-sexuality/robin-dembroff-dee-payton-why-we-shouldnt-compare …

Do you believe he was asking a question in good faith?

Yes. If you have followed Dawkins’ style for decades you will see that he asks questions in a way that is expected in a scientific context. Direct questions are asked and no-one in that situation takes offence.

It's disingenuous to suggest he didn't know about that article, or was unable to google it Just asking questions with millions of followers is either deliberate or incredibly dumb. And I'm sure Richard can't easily be described as dumb.

Google "transracial vs transgender" and that article is the first result. It's followed by lots of similar articles answering the "question" Richard threw out.

Odd that he expected to find it on Twitter rather than reading some of the philosophical literature on the subject.

Yes and I'm sure you understand context is important. Dawkins asking that question on Twitter was like throwing a firecracker into a room full of angry people with guns. If he genuinely didn't know he has the skills to do research and make a statement.

With the context of how the online atheist community led to the anti feminist and anit SJW movements and that he has alienated a lot of the more progressive elements of his fan base, simply asking this question can be seen as reinforcing the views of those more extreme elements.
