Ok this is a good point! We already lock people up against their wishes, so in this scenario, why would Trump's wishes matter if he's convicted?

Punishment has not deterred crime. Punishment is due to imperfect governance. Man has not invented a perfect judicial system. AI in future will produce "Justice Machine" Present judicial systems is dictated by powerful elite. Detail study of balance of self-interests is reqd.

There certainly must be SOME acts worthy of punishment.

I don't see how punitive judgements hold if we're in a deterministic world. If we're control systems and we act in dangerous manners then the question becomes how to fix the system rather than blame. Punishment doesn't even really make sense.
