"When we raise money it’s AI, when we hire it's machine learning, and when we do the work it's logistic regression." (I'm not sure who came up with this but it's a gem 💎)

Happy day! What happens when you take a great idea like ranked-choice voting and combine it with the execution skills of Fidel Castro's attempted assassins.

Basic fact in my daughters life - she requires Brand name Keppra to control her seizures. We tried generic Keppra, which made her seizures worse, then weaning which led to hospitalization and the closest we've every come to losing her. /1

Life as a woman in academia: Male colleague #1 (MC1): I put a very rough draft in this google doc. Me: Thank you, MC1, for the great start! I just extensively edited the doc for the past 3 hrs. I think it's good to go. MC2: Thanks MC1 for single-handedly writing this document.

Confounding & biased sampling have been debunked! Gosh it will be embarrassing to have to tell generations of college students that we statisticians got it wrong... Though to be fair, if a key scientific principle were to be debunked on a blog, it would be ‘s blog

This workshop seems like a great opportunity for a senior PhD student or post-doc interested in pursuing an academic career! I participated in a similar program at Rice University ages ago when I was a 4th year PhD student, and it was a great experience!

And this is related to my philosophy in teaching .... my students are all going to have access to Wikipedia IRL so having them memorize facts about the t-test is not super helpful. But having them understand the fundamentals so they can make sense of the Wikipedia page is

That being said, I think an amazing way to troll the statistics community would be to edit the Wikipedia page of some statistical test, like modify the chi-squared test page to say that dependence among observations is ok. Chaos would ensue 3/3

I think this must be somewhat unique to statistics (or me? hope it’s not just me) in terms of reliance on Wikipedia. Like if one of my biologist colleagues told me they used Wikipedia to remember what the four nucleotides are or what the amygdala does, I would... be worried 2/
