The problems at Paideia pervade the field, and it is a big red flag that the board lacks the language, concern, and/or insight to describe their failings. This is not a simple HR problem or a customer service problem. 2/

This letter absolved Paideia of responsibility for institutional failures and frames oppression and abuse of power as hurt feelings. This statement provides cover for oppression by centering the feelings of the oppressed over the cause of the oppression (the organization). 3/

How can the board recognize an adequate leader when they have absolved their organization of responsibility for everything but "insensitivity" and "misjudgments." 4/

A primary Paideia instructor publicly called women of color (the authors of the letter) "uneducated" and "uncivilized." That is insensitive? That is a misjudgement? Seriously? That is overt racism. This is the person chosen to host a women's Latin event through Paideia? 5/pic.twitter.com/SJ13kD8mAI

Paideia needs to call this what it is and acknowledge their agency. If this statement is "just poor communication," then they should have cared enough to consult with people who know how to ascribe words to these issues. 6/

I hope the field continues to hold Paideia accountable and chooses to be as decisive in addressing the root cause of this pervasive abomination and its other iterations. 7/

Paideia cannot not become a way for equally problematic organizations to virtue signal & release statements without acknowledging that the way they have shaped the field has created this monster. END

If anyone here is inclined to tone check me and complain that my Twitter tone is alienating, block me. You are helping make the field alienating if you think my tone is the main problem after you read a thread about supremacy / racism in the field. Get some better priorities.

This is a very good point. And even this 'admission' is couched in statements about how good the organisation is.
