Interesting. 23andMe is laying off 100 people. Consumers were buying genetic tests in droves, until they weren't, a change which came sometime in 2019. Why? Privacy? Realising DNA is used for commercial research? Perceptions of utility? Financial cost?

Our preprint on mutational process in human germline on biorxive. Here we show that variability of mutational patterns across the genome can be used to extract majority of mutational processes. We found mutational signature of CpG demethylation.

Delighted to see our work on de novo mutations in schizophrenia out today in + our results integrated into the paper by et al. below. Open science for the win! Special thanks to the contributing families in Taiwan, whose genetic data made this work possible

All fresh & energetic after the Xmas break and looking for a new adventure? We have several open positions in Amsterdam for postdocs in bioinformatics or statistical genetics with an interest in optimizing interpretation of GWAS results for brain-related traits. Retweet is🙏

Yengo et al (2020) show a previous finding of 'social-genetic' effects, whereby individuals' education is influenced by their friends genes, to be an artifact of population stratification. They urge caution at the intersection of genetics & social science:

Really enjoying reading the Handbook of Statistical Genomics . First chapter by Wegmann and Leuenberger covers so much ground in stat inference and intro popgen in <50 pages!

Buttigieg is neither a liar nor a motherf-----r, despite that hideous attack on him the other day from The Root, and plenty of black people know it. I write here, for them.

Huge SV preprint from deCODE Genetics today: WGS @ 15x coverage in 1.8 **thousand** icelanders Yes, thousand. Not a typo. About *two orders of magnitude* more than the largest published long-read human SV study 🤯😮 Wow.
