72% of the unvaccinated said they'd quit after a mandate. In real life, few do. Studies show older people are vulnerable to misinformation and Fox News, and yet almost all are vaccinated. What explains this? My piece of the sociology of the unvaccinated. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/15/opinion/covid-vaccines-unvaccinated.html …pic.twitter.com/wG8ML6oXYZ

Yes, some unvaccinated are deniers claiming COVID is a hoax. But research shows many other groups. There are unvaccinated people who wear masks, for example: most likely to be black women. Only a third of pregnant women are vaccinated: babies are being orphaned as they're born.pic.twitter.com/zedfkCLqXR

For some, fear of needles reaches phobia-levels and can cause them to faint or have a panic attack. Research suggests about one in ten adults avoid vaccines because of this. Canada, UK etc. reach out, offer support and privacy rooms. What do we do? Everything to make it worse.pic.twitter.com/VvLdKqMw4C

Knowing about the fear of needles that some % of people have, it kind of drives me crazy that *so many* articles about the vaccine show a needle going into an arm. It seems like that would just make it harder for those with needle fear.

Did you see SELF made some stock photos of vaccinations intended to be friendlier than the usual ones? https://www.self.com/story/vaccine-stock-photos … Still needles visible in some of them, but a definite improvement on the standard “baby cries as it’s jabbed in the arm” shots. And free to use!

Thanks for sharing this. While I was perusing the pictures, my six year old came in and asked what I was looking at, which was a nice opportunity. He's scared of getting a shot but trying, a little at a time, to learn more about it and become less afraid. I'm proud of him.

I don't have an actual fear of needles - I've given blood over 80 times - but I still dislike every single image of a needle going into an arm. Makes me cringe! I can only imagine how tough it is for others.

I couldn’t agree more. Every single article in the news focuses in on needles going into arms, usually many throughout the course of the article. Completely unnecessarily fear inducing approach

Exactly! My local news put together footage of just needles going into arms, one after the other, and kept playing it every time they talked about vaccines. Made me queasy and I don't even care about needles.

I treat needle phobia with ERP and use the images as a way to build tolerance to the anxiety. The trick, however, is the individual needs to be willing to feel anxious and move through anyway. Very hard to do without support! I wish this were a larger public discussion!

I hate that they always show the needle in the skin. I've mostly overcome my fear of needles (cancer treatment will do that), but it's a legit thing. I've fainted! I have no advice for overcoming, though. "Get cancer," seems a bit extreme. 😋
