Wishing all the fellow members of the tribe an easy fast. I’ll be taking advantage of the holiday to go on my quarterly Twitter siesta. See you all next week!

"From what I can see, however, Vice President Mike Pence’s desperation to please Trump’s every whim was a far more dangerous threat to the republic than anything Milley did."

In the rush to teach the civil-mil side of this yesterday, I didn't even think about this as an example of my argument...but we do see the same advisers behaving differently under experienced v inexperienced presidents. (Here is article ).

Up 3-0, play there is to hit the cutoff man, keep the runner at first (and the double play in order). Sox have been playing some really poor fundamental baseball lately. They weren't going to get Kelenic at 3B.

Yeah this sounds correct based on what we have now. Recommend.

My primary takeaway from the Miley kerfuffle is that, as per usual, is right and we all need to acknowledge that fact.

The whole Milley story is just emblematic of a broader problem in the Trump administration: Trump was such an irrational outlier that any coherent foreign policy debate foundered on the idea that it was Trump in charge of it all.

Every Trump admin official who slams Biden for leaving Afghans behind should be asked what they did when Trump tried to kill the US refugee program.

"Policymakers should treat sanctions like a scalpel, not a Swiss Army knife." In today's in , highlights that US sanctions have little to do with efficacy, but rather are often a lazy, easy to reach for tool.

I can't overstate the need to put these off-year races in context. If Newsom survives by 25% (?) and McAuliffe were to win by 5%, they'd be spun as big Dem wins. But that same ~5 pt swing right from the 2020 Biden/Trump margin would easily win Rs the House & Senate in 2022.

Not really what you expect to see in a mailing from your local school board.

Even though the recall resoundingly failed, "Yes" is on track to prevail in a handful of competitive House districts, including in Orange County. Even a 20-25% "No" margin statewide could be consistent w/ an environment in which Republicans take back the House & Senate in 2022.

Unfortunately for General Milley, it's not the President's confidence he should be worried about. The actions, if accurately reported, redound to Biden's advantage.

Interesting sidebar in was this hermetically sealed new conservative media that was in complete denial about what was happening.
