1/ Long story, but I've got 280 characters to abuse, so... It has to do with the real problems I've seen in my life, in the lives of people in my community, and in the lives of the clients I serve every day.

2/ I was raised by a single working-class mom here in So. Ind. from the time I was 3. Dropped out of high school at 17 and worked as a musician for a while. Got my GED for my mom's sake and put myself through college. Was 1st in my family to graduate.

3/ Somewhere along the way I started caring about other people. I went to law school so I could give a voice to people who had no other way of accessing the justice system or other institutions that govern our daily lives. I had never really even met a lawyer before then.

4/ I went to work in my community as a civil rights lawyer, representing Davids against Goliaths - workers against big business, vets against the federal gov't, victims of bad cops, and inmates -- people who would have no voice at all without a lawyer.

5/ In 2014 I got involved as counsel in the marriage equality cases that went to SCOTUS. Then represented couples against Kim Davis. In 2016, I filed suit on behalf of victims of white supremacist violence at a Trump rally.https://mic.com/articles/183895/one-lawyer-is-running-for-congress-and-suing-the-president-for-inciting-violence-at-the-same-time#.drzqdcG4r …

6/ After 11/8/2016, like a lot of people, I was looking for ways to step up and do more for the community I serve. This is something I can do. People here trust me because of my past work, and they deserve to know that progressives have real solutions for their real problems. #

Bravo good sir!
Q #2
The biggest concern of citizens going into #2018Midterms seems to be healthcare. Can you give us a run down on your stance, and goals to achieve on this important issue?pic.twitter.com/9tzan5i7WX

1/ Fundamentally, it's as simple as this: we cannot allow our people to go bankrupt or die because they can't pay a medical bill. No corporation (or person) should be allowed to profit from the misery of the sick, the dying, and/or the dead.

2/ I think people are *mostly* in agreement on that stuff. How we get there is a different story. I think we need to be open to any option that gets us to the outcome in tweet 1 ^^^ but personally, I believe a single-payer system is right for America, and I support HR 676.

3/ I think that progressives have to be careful not to fall too far into the "but how do we pay for it?" sandtrap. We're already paying for it. A single-payer system ultimately costs less. BUT...

4/ This shouldn't be the first question. Of COURSE the wealthiest country in the history of the world can afford to provide its people with healthcare. The question is one of *priorities.* It's a moral question. We should frame our conversations that way. #

Very well said! Q #3 is an expansion on healthcare I understand that Indiana, like the rest of this country, is facing a huge opioid epidemic. How can we help to alleviate this crisis as a nation, and in Indiana?pic.twitter.com/luYC7MY63b

1/ The opioid crisis is a battle that must be conducted on multiple fronts, but conceptually we have to move addiction from the "criminal justice" box to the "public health" box in our discourse and legislation.
