2/ I was raised by a single working-class mom here in So. Ind. from the time I was 3. Dropped out of high school at 17 and worked as a musician for a while. Got my GED for my mom's sake and put myself through college. Was 1st in my family to graduate.

3/ Somewhere along the way I started caring about other people. I went to law school so I could give a voice to people who had no other way of accessing the justice system or other institutions that govern our daily lives. I had never really even met a lawyer before then.

4/ I went to work in my community as a civil rights lawyer, representing Davids against Goliaths - workers against big business, vets against the federal gov't, victims of bad cops, and inmates -- people who would have no voice at all without a lawyer.

1/ Fundamentally, it's as simple as this: we cannot allow our people to go bankrupt or die because they can't pay a medical bill. No corporation (or person) should be allowed to profit from the misery of the sick, the dying, and/or the dead.

2/ I think people are *mostly* in agreement on that stuff. How we get there is a different story. I think we need to be open to any option that gets us to the outcome in tweet 1 ^^^ but personally, I believe a single-payer system is right for America, and I support HR 676.
