I left twitter! I’m available for consulting gigs. Hire me to: -launch chaotic early stage products -develop content & revenue strategy -build partnerships that don’t screw anyone over (bullshit & risk analysis) -make biz ops less annoying -bring your weird ideas to life

+1. Many people I’ve shared my salary with tell me they’ve never had a convo like that before. fwiw the only folk who have said no to me were wealthy and white

Pay equity and pay transparency go hand in hand - but it’s often more nuanced than that. I wrote about many ways folks can participate in promoting fair compensation and pay equity here: source.opennews.org/articles/sloc-

RIP to all the alt weeklies and that wacky little culture mag the Post used to publish

There are little to no culture publications in Canada. It's my least favourite part about trying to write here. Unlike the US and the UK where culture sections and publications are integral parts of coverage and are diverse in their offerings, Canada has very limited options.

this might be my favorite thing we've ever done. read this story to find out that a 16-year-old girl wrote multiple episodes of the Legend of Zelda cartoon based on her D&D games (among other absurd and fun facts)

yea you can’t expect a considerable product investment if your long-term plan is to break publisher economics

I have zero inside knowledge about Scroll / Twitter Blue but I'd take a lesson in seeing how their general acceptance by publishers was accompanied by how they never launched an aggregator/reader platform and let pubs still do what they wanted with reg and paywalls.

starting to feel like 2020 again with all these media layoffs. just this week: VICE Media (laid off several longtime staffers) Vox Media (owns Vox, NY Mag, Thrillist, more) Gannett (USA Today/ownership of several smaller outlets) + the shuttering of Protocol earlier this week

Gannett layoffs coming again Dec. 1-2. Comes a month after the company paused 401k match, froze hiring and required weeklong holiday furloughs for many of its newsrooms. Holidays right around the corner.

the thing i loved most about this partnership was how hard y'all pushed for us to make the JS as tiny as possible, which then helped hundreds of other sites

I'd pay for @TwitterBlue if the original 1st party revenue mission of @tryscroll — replace ads for a fee — was kept and extended to additional partners and Twitter itself. I was a beta and paid user of Scroll, and helped implement it at USA Today. It worked.
