They do, that's an absolute fact. It is just one more way people have found to "game the system." The problem is, where do you draw the line? And who draws it? I personally believe a doctor or psychiatrist should have to sign off on every service animal. How do we fix it?

In some states they do! I've been fighting for years to help change the laws. I'll be dead before anything gets done!
-
Not necessarily. It's just about getting the right person or group to battle alongside you for your cause. Maybe you'll be able to find the group or person needed to be your voice. I hope you can. If you don't mind me asking, what state are you in? Wisconsin here
-
I'm in Nevada who has the toughest laws regarding service animals. I'm glad they do but 1 state alone won't do the job. It's the states that have no laws or minimal laws that are the issue.
-
I agree with you completely, which is why a bigger voice would be so important.

Thought the same thing today when I saw a lady pushing two "boutique" dogs in a stroller in a Naples, FL Target today. Feeding them string cheese...
-
In Target I saw a homemade vest on a small breed of dog that read “anxiety dog.” Hell, if that’s the case millions of people would parade their dogs around claiming anxiety!! Service dogs should be legit and signed off on by doctors. Stop abusing it!
-
worse, I saw a shitzu with no vest in Meijer MI walking in the store grocery section, with three adults. I asked one as was told the man was deaf and it was an anxiety dog, which is now why stored want to ban all. My son is legally blind and needs his, people like this ruin it
-
How people think that this is okay to do continues to baffle me!

I have a friend that flies with her Shih tzu and pays the pet ticket on the airline as well as keeps her in a carrier. There’s a right way to travel with an animal and a wrong way. Claiming it’s a service animal to keep it out of the crate is not the right way.
-
I fly with my Pekingese all the time. He should qualify for his own frequent flyer plan. I hate it when people cheat the system. A lot of people do it.

I worry. Airlines are now cracking down as a lady wanted her "service peacock" to come on board (they refused). Some airlines are now requiring a veterinarian to certify it's a safe animal for the public. There needs to be a certification process for these "service" animals.
-
No other animal can be a "service" animal other than a dog. Any animal can be a support animal (ESA) but those animals have no rights and aren't protected by the ADA.
-
I used that verbiage as I was responding to the original comment that put it in quotes. I know the difference. My grandfather was blind and had a guide dog (service animal). The problem is many people don't know the difference between that and an ESA.

Bingo!! It's become such racket... I'm all about ADA but with this exception you should have to show training papers and illness. Or if it's a police dog badge and id.
-
Agree 1000%, people are abusing this!
