Taste and style of library design does keep changing and preference varies by person. Probably a good idea to keep a range of styles open. It's a silly, recurring argument that we need to update everything to current trend. A trend likely on the way out by the time it opens.
I'm not talking about trend-hopping.. like this building was not accessible so they made alterations for people to come in via a basement tunnel instead of the inspiring space seen in the photo above. So many functional not aesthetic reasons why it's showing its age.

Bad renovations can be fixed. We don't tear down Victorians (anymore) because they're not accessible - best to figure out ways to make them so.

Agree. It's a big stop on my brutalism walking tour. And I go into all that history as well. Political motivation to build new/trendy instead of maintain and thoughtfully renovate public buildings is a major contributing factor to the hate-on for brutalist bldgs.
