I agree with most of what you wrote here, but I think you fell for a common misconception: that DRY is about code. You wrote it yourself: you were too occupied with how it "looks", but the similarities in the resize logic where more or less a coincidencehttp://verraes.net/2014/08/dry-is-about-knowledge/ …

Sure. I think we’re saying the same thing.

Very interesting, especially the part about changing requirements. I've seen cases where clean-code obsession is motivated by the need to be flexible for new cases, but with misguided boundary conditions ("in case there's a new cardinal direction, we need to repeat less code")
-
Yeah it’s like preparing for things that don’t happen but completely missing the actual messy requirement complications

You’re conflating two separate things. One is the desire to write clear, well-structured code. Another is your belief that your code is more valuable than that of your colleagues. I fear you’re missing the more important lesson. Human code > clean code > clever code > dirty code
-
That sounds like bullet point number one in the last section?

I tend to write everything three times before reaching for an abstraction that removes code duplication. In my opinion this doesn’t necessarily make my code messy and saves me from early optimizations. But u still think clean code (the book) has plenty of other great points
-
Simple concepts like proper variable naming, creating simple functions, etc, really help new devs, and I’ve honestly seen mid level devs failing at things like this too. There’s more to clean code than just abstracting things (although I agree it’s a core point of it)

I Wonder if this blog post is less about SOLID/DRY/readable code, and more about team communication and internal guidelines and standards.
-
These are two related conversations in my experience
