    hey -- are you a software engineer, do you like writing, do you like data and/or perf tools? 🤔 if anyone wants to write a medium post comparing honeycomb and some other tool (like anything on ), i'll totally hook you up with a free account for a year.

    One of the top mistranslated Chinese phrases is China calling itself "The Middle Kingdom"; the true spirit of 中国 is "THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE"

    has anyone else in SF/Oakland/Bay had headaches and nightmares for the last couple weeks in a row? I keep ending up in this deadly cycle where staying indoors makes me groggy, so I go run/bike outside, but the air quality makes me sick and homestucks me ;o;

    eeee releasing heavily entangled stuff is infinitely more relaxing when I am using dropdowns to set feature flags to true instead of literally merging code :D yay <3

    I wrote this yesterday and in retrospect I am disappointed in myself for being so reluctant to acknowledge my Chinese identity that I titled it in an incredibly roundabout way

    When I was a vagrant in Europe, people would as me where I'm from, and I'd say California. No, where are you REALLY from? Joke's on you I was literally born in California! But who am I kidding, the cultural baggage is so heavy and the weight will carry to my future kiddos

    I feel like we never got to get it out of our system; we all grew up in a hurry and left and awkward feelings behind us and don't reflect together much

    anyway there's no thesis or coherency here; I've felt really connected and glad to see all the personal stories on my feed lately and wanted to scattershot some thoughts/experiences of my own (:

    While living in Berlin I finally felt so free of the weird feeling that I should apologise for being chinese, I even felt slightly appreciated for my unique mixed cultural perspective

    When I lived in Berlin I found myself speaking a lot more about my Chinese identity than my entire life. I wonder if it was because the folks there are uniquely 1. less accustomed to Chinese people around them and 2. not weirdly racist such that I disengage completely

    Another time I shared a belay ledge with an older chinese woman, and she told me she liked visiting Yosemite because she sometimes felt weird racism vibes sometimes in the climbing scene in Colorado where she lives and you didn't get that here in California

    Once I was on a plane and struck up polite conversation with an older businessman next to me, and he straight up said "those Chinese and Indians taking over our jobs" while making eye contact and I was so confused I didn't know how even

    being in California while chinese is also weird because there's so many asian such that I usually felt guilty about being part of the asian wave that overruns some scenes and rudely outcompete other minorities. where the fuck did I get this complicated messed up feeling?
