It’s a key piece of evidence to help proving greater depth. Really helps you to see those that have the ‘flare’ for writing.

  5. One of the most common questions we get is: can you use comparative judgement for national moderation? Here's what our subscribers say.

  9. This is great news - just a few years ago I would hear heads worrying that Ofsted required 'fresh data' that was no more than a month old. We blogged about it back in 2017. Change is happening!

It captures the zeitgeist (21st century skills!) but also acknowledges false dichotomies in ed: students need skills AND knowledge, student agency is important BUT professors should design curriculum; employers have insights but should not be in charge of education.

This thread sums up the futility of VAR better than anything else I've seen. Read the whole thread!

I'm glad people have liked this thread. The ideas about tacit knowledge are inspired by my day job using comparative judgement. Lots more about the impact of tech on society in my new book Teachers vs Tech, out in March. Sign up for updates.

Superb thread. Just watching VAR issues at and wondering whether the two minutes they played while VAR was working out whether to give a pen (it did) will be added on after 45 since nothing that happened in that time would have counted (not that anything did!)?

Apologies, I misquoted in my VAR thread. She actually said 'Crowds are there for big truths not tiny ones.' Helen is also a West Ham season ticket holder & it's always a pleasure to discuss written & unwritten football rules, essay rubrics & constitutions with her.

As a West Ham annoyed after yet another VAR decision went against us today, it's nice to read the faults with VAR articulated in such a fine way by one of my favourite educationalists. And she's also a Hammers fan! 👍⚒️
