    Tenderness can be a byproduct of meditation when, as we sit and become intimate with our own pain, we see that it is a tie that binds us to one another. Once we understand we’re all suffering, our hearts soften and we can begin to see each other with gentle eyes.

    One of the hardest things to do is to see ourselves in others, to recognize the humanity around us. When we find ourselves stuck in judgement we can ask: “what would have to happen in my life to cause me to behave like this person I’m judging?” This is a step toward compassion.

    There are tender hearts everywhere - inside ourselves and inside others. Obscured by worry and fear, stories and conditioning. Our practice in meditation is to drop into this gentle place. Our practice in life is to connect through that space with the tenderness of others.

    Don't simply let life happen to you. Yes, things happen to us. But how we react and how we move through uncertainty is a choice. Take the high road. Observe and reflect, but be sure to contribute mindful energy to situations whenever you can.

    There is no "magical thinking"; there is just thinking. If you view everything in negative terms, you make life cloudier. If you think with rational positivity, you add a bit of light to your days. There is no reason not to err on the side of the light.
