when people fondly remember thps, they think it is because it has skateboards, but theres a reason we remember THPS and not XGames Skateboarding (for example) even though both have boards

same can be said of bomb rush cyberfunk. people are like "what no skates? this is going to suck" not realizing that JSRF was good because of setting, character design, gamefeel, storytelling, and mechanics; not because the characters had skates on.

whenever i show street uni x someone always says "yo this would be sick if it had skateboards". girl, you only like skateboards because tony hawk was a good game. its not a good game BECAUSE of the skateboards

with that being said, I think they could have done a lot more with the skates. the "tricks" and supporting mechanics were a bit... rudimentary.
