I can imagine your training course: From Ed to Emacs.

But Emacs is the One True Editor™ (and kitchen sink), so clearly everyone should know it. OK so use Vi and/or Vim occasionally but always come back to Emacs. Or an IDE. Buttttttt only with Emacs key bindings, obviously.

By" IDE" you mean some kind of mode running within emacs?

:-) Having used Emacs for 30+ years, I still only use it as an editor, I have to date failed to use any of the IDE modes.

Customisation I do quite a lot of. I think I now know too much ELisp.
