Asking for a provisional should be the last step. Confirm that the poll worker is looking up the right spelling of your name, confirm your precinct (sometimes voting places for diff. precincts are right next to each other), or other things I'm not thinking of right now

This. In NY, if you're at the wrong polling site, your affidavit ballot will be thrown out, but if you go to the correct site, your vote will be properly recorded and tallied.

#VoteThemOut Vote straight Democrat, all the way up and down the ballot. -
Yes, my days of “trying to balance it out” with a few random votes for R’s is WAY over. They’re all complicit, and even if there’s a stray “concerned conservative” in there... too effing bad. They’re all blades on McConnell’s riding mower. They gotta go.

There is nothing conservative about this criminal enterprise operating under the guise of a political party. The Republicans conspired with Putin's Russian mafia thugs to rig elections to get absolute power and ending democracy in America.

But it's not law that it be counted. States have diff rules. Check out the rules for your state if you are forced to use a provisional ballot & be prepared to follow up to make sure your vote was counted! Example:

Thank you for saying this. We actually don't have a provisional ballot in the county where I serve. We have a provisional *envelope* with a place where we check off exactly why said ballot is in the provisional envelope. It also re-registers you.

I’ve been registered to vote for years! Then I got a text from an organization I subscribe to. It asked of I was registered to vote and allowed me to check. For some reason, I wasn’t. Turns out that all of a sudden my double middle initial is an issue.
-
I have two middle names and two last names. But I normally go by ONE middle initial and ONE last name. That’s what’s on my license. The only difference is on my military enlistment paperwork. I enlisted in 2002. NEVER been a problem before!

And, to be totally honest, Provisional Ballots are a PAIN. However, if YOU do not request a Provisional Ballot, 90% of t/time, you will not be offered one. Take the time. Fill it out. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! If you don't follow ALL the directions, your vote won't count.

Never just walk away... ask for the provisional ballot...the election workers have been trained to handle this

Took me almost fifteen minutes once because the volunteer couldn’t find the letter Q in the alphabet. I had to walk her through it. “Forward, forward... no, you’re up to S now. Go back.” Yes, us Qs only took a quarter page of her binder, but we exist dammit!

I was told Provisional ballots weren't counted unless there was an inquiry. In Texas and Louisiana, I regularly witnessed folks given Provisional Ballots and assured they would be counted. Republicans lie about everything.

What if they dont have any? During the primaries my polling place ran out of paper ballots. People had to wait 3 hours for ballots to get there, and they didn't extend poll hours either.
-
I'm pretty sure that's illegal. If you're in line waiting to vote at closing time, you should be allowed to vote. Source:https://www.businessinsider.com/what-happens-still-in-line-to-vote-when-polls-close-2016-11 …
