So why do your average liberal arts students (and their professors) seem more tribal and contemptuous of those with divergent beliefs these highly politically-polarized days?

Education generally (not just in psychology) makes people less judgemental. Indoctrination on the other hand has the opposite effect. Our young people are increasingly being indoctrinated rather than educated.

Studying the personality disorders has made me less judgemental, but it brought along with it a sense of doom, and of loss. Doomed in the realization that the undiagnosed/untreated surround me in the world, and loss regarding how I squandered my life on all the wrong people.
