Our paper on cells migrating in asymmetric two-state systems is published in ! We study how migratory cells respond to the area, perimeter, shape, and orientation of their local micro-environment. 👉

How does a C. elegans embryo select the polarization axis? We find two essential factors: the phoshporylation-dephosporylation cycle of PAR proteins and the length of the aPAR-pPAR interface.

"Don't work too hard!" says Sir Paul Nurse We especially hope that the Medicine Laureate isn't working too hard today as it is his 71st birthday. Nurse received the for his discoveries on key regulators of the cell cycle. Happy birthday!

Excited to announce our preprint linking active matter physics to pattern formation in Myxococcus xanthus. Defects in cell packing lead to cell layers and fruiting bodies. A great collaboration with Katie Copenhagen, , and Ned Wingreen:

This is a fantastic, Australia-centric take on communicating the impact(s) of climate change--- amongst other things, highlighting the changes that have already happened in our own lifetime!

UMAP is often said to be superior to t-SNE because it is better at preserving global distances. Dmitry and I showed that this is because by default, t-SNE initializes randomly whereas UMAP initializes with Laplacian eigenmaps.

Continuing with our seminar, we discussed a paper on hydrodynamic instabilities in biological tubes by et al. Beyond classical Rayleigh-Plateau, there extra instabilities, if active cell division is considered!

However, introducing acute corners such as in triangular sites, leads to a longer search process on that site, introducing asymmetries even for equal areas.
