I've been writing weekly retrospectives ever since I started my solopreneur sabbatical. From now on I'm going to post them in this thread.

Interesting changes since I've gotten older (though not "old" ... yet): - All nighters 👉 Early mornings - 12-hour marathons randomly hacking on stuff 👉 3-hour sprints focused on specific tasks - Half-assing a bunch of projects 👉 Whole-assing just a few Kinda digging it tbh

Another big month! We have reached the surprising point where I actually worry that my revenue numbers could be (mis)construed as bragging... 🤔📈 Stats: 💰 $1505 revenue 💒 2,312 real sessions ✉️ 101,263 real cards made 💲 301 sales 🕑 19 hours worked 👨‍💼 $79 hourly wage

Would love to know, e.g. how promotions work at and other "culture-first" organizations.

Looking for companies that have moved away from traditional annual performance review systems and onto something else. Anyone know of any examples?

I noticed the other day that "place card me" is now the #10 search term driving traffic to . Doubt I'll ever hit this goal (at least with that project) but it's fun to see your brand start to become a thing.

At the beginning of your software career you are blind to all the edge cases that can break your code. Later you learn to anticipate these things and proactively plan for them. Then finally, you (often) stop bothering because you understand the full ROI equations of your time.

I should add that technically the above is only necessary if your parent div is using display: block or display: inline-block. If you're using floats of flex then you don't need to worry about this.

Why would you declare font-size 0 on a parent element you might ask? Well turns out that in *print* layouts a single space is inserted between divs. So if you happen to need exact positioning for e.g. laying out cards on a page you need to declare font-size: 0 on their parent

In case anyone was wondering, TIL that using "ems" for font size works relative to the parent div. So if you have a "1em" font inside a "0px" parent then that font is still size 0 and therefore invisible.

it's also an interesting lesson in humility. realizing all these things you used to be responsible for are now completely in the competent hands of other people feels great. but it also makes you question your own worth. untangling your identity from your work is complicated.

feeling super proud of the tech team today. 🤗 two years ago i thought they'd be lost without me. at today's offsite it was clear my role is basically nonexistent / irrelevant and they're doing better than ever.
