does your job as a business deal mean you can't be passionate about your work? no. but you should be able to take a dispassionate look at it as a business deal any time you need to.

does your job as a business deal mean you have to max your money at the expense of all else? no. lots of factors can mean it's a fair deal that works for you. it's your call what they are, but it's a business deal.

*always* have an eye on whether your job is a fair deal; if you carry privilege, think on whether it's a fair deal for others too. there are lots of things you can try if it's not (advocate, organize, leave, etc) or you may decide to keep your head down. just do it consciously.

It took me a very, very long time to get to a place in my career where I could wrap my head around this.

Would have loved this during college. For whatever passion for your product, love for your team, respect for your leaders... you're a line item. So you have to be a Ronin.
