Our recently launched #GPonlineservices #toolkit can empower people to take greater control of their health and care, including diabetes care. View the toolkit here: https://bit.ly/2Cx1zRF  @DiabetesUK @Diabetescouk #CIRCatRCGP

Does this change anything at all for those of us that have LTC but whose GP practice refuses to allow full access to free text consultations and hx letters for all patients throughout the group practice? @MattHancock @Masood_Online @bruceelliottuk @RoyLilley @NHSCCIO

There is conflict of information in this document all patients will have FULL record access by 2018 but on the other hand the level of access may be set at a ”standard”choice for the whole practice rather than to meet the needs of individuals-can someone explain @Masood_Onlinepic.twitter.com/VDVUr7ANFM

I agree that clarification is necessary. It should also b the case that there is never a " one size fits all approach". Having said that, I think that all patients should be offered full online access to all their info & choose what they want to use. Pts have the statutory right

All patients must have access to all their records but we must make it easy for them to understand. #Digitalisation

But what about patients who have no problems understanding records as they are? Maybe we should also be looking at educating patients starting in primary school to understand med language. Except that doctors wouldn't like that, it would remove their power over the patient.

Yes thousands of us patients also have a medical background and have no problem understanding medical records. For others embedded explanations of key words will be useful. LTC pts often become expert in their condition too and have great understanding. Let’s just do it

But we have to be careful with embedded explanations because @EMISGroup @ptaccesshelp link for Lentigo still leads to Herpes, Encephalitis and circumcision despite me pointing this out several times. They have to be correct or they will make things worse not better.

Annoying when it’s wrong but the more people use the systems and more feedback comes back the more these things will be improved and refined.

Yes. And also this will create a positive culture of patients looking at the record for further reflection when they need to. Also many patients do look terms up to understand better. I also have an open door policy of come back to discuss if needed

But if the system is wrong, as in the present case of Lentigo on EMIS, then patients won't bother using it or coming back. Badly written IT systems are full of code which users never ever use, but the NHS still ends up paying for it.
