Why do they use FRAM at all? It's not the usual application. One advantage of FRAM is, that it is written usually in the same bus cycle, for realtime applications like CAN Buffer.

My guess at this point and after reading some of their material is that it was something they pulled from a reference design. CPU may also be STM32 of some variant perhaps?
