Here it is: a blog where is both shamed and adored. 2 goals: 1) expose companies who use this type of greenwashing marketing spin 2) educate about wild bees and their adorable grooming behaviours

Some thoughts: when you see something bad happen to someone else, a natural response is "how do I stop this from happening again, to me?" A close corollary is "oh, I know this couldn't have happened to me!" (1/)

Hey how does one sustainably manage beehives? And what do beehives have to do with a more sustainable world? Would love to see links to the research this is based on. Or perhaps this isn't science-backed at all?

An excellent new blog post from on whether or not to become a beekeeper. Touches on common motivations for taking up (such as ) and whether keeping aligns with those goals.

Also, cities need to put together some regs. We can't have unfettered growth of the industry in already fragmented habitat.

  9. ADDING A BEEHIVE TO YOUR ROOFTOP GETS YOU "2 POINTS FOR USING LOCAL WILDLIFE SPECIES AND 2 FOR HABITAT RESTORATION" HOW IS THIS EVEN REAL? ADDING A BEEHIVE IS LITERALLY NEITHER OF THOSE THINGS 😫

Please share! We are recruiting a (fully funded) PhD student to study effects of vegetation & built infrastructure on urban microclimate/pollution . This is an interdisciplinary project between biology & engineering co-advised with Ursula Eicker:

Great new study from Germany showing how insect pollinator diversity & pollination varies between urban & rural systems. Interesting how media reports have portrayed the results…

As a master's student I was "fully funded" but paid out of pocket for almost all of my research expenses because my PI had no funding

I am now in possession of the raw data for: from Pruitt's lab, on cockroach behavior. The data were collected by the undergrad lead author who sent me the data. I find no grounds for concern.

BEE FACT: A population of nesting alkali bees was estimated to have moved 96 tons of soil in a single year, but construction firms won’t hire them because they refuse to wear hard hats

This is a truly amazing study. Huge potential for future application to fight bee pathogens & powerful tool for bee research in general. Congrats all all others. With comment, perspective article & cover!

Maybe knows if there's a more up to date pollen protein database since T'ai Roulston et al. paper from 2000?

Does a plant species database of pollen nutritional info (e.g., protein content) exist? If so, can you please tell me where I can find it.
